The rich history of Jerez

Quietly situated in sunny southern Spain, the Andalusian city of Jerez de la Frontera presents a truly unique identity steeped in authentic Spanish tradition. Alongside Andalusian cuisine and equestrian art, the city prides itself on its local heritage, with two particularly redeeming attributes, flamenco and sherry wine.

While Jerez quite frankly means sherry in Spanish, the fittingly named city was awarded the title of ‘Europe’s Wine City’ in 2014. The famous sherry wineries of Jerez, called bodegas, are part at the so-called ‘Sherry Triangle’ in the west of the city. Sanlucar de Barrameda, where manzanilla sherry is made, and El Puerto de Santa Maria complete the famous triangle on the Spanish coast.
